kabob_492x325Newness is something we mention regular in this space.  We usually find ourselves ordering a dish cooked a different way if not trying a new genre of food altogether.  So it came as no surprise when Charmed Magazine asked us to check out Jasa Kabob on the Canton Square.  They bring to the neighborhood an Indian and Pakistani menu, which is all but known for both of us.

Jasa Kabob is an easy find at 2917 O’Donnell Street.  They run a small shop, but it does have room to sit down (and watch the Orioles) with carry out and delivery options as well.  We decided to order a large load of food, so we chose the carry out might be the best option so we could sprawl out on our dining room table.

Since we ordered so much, I’ll simply charge down the list.  We had the Lamb, Chicken, and Beef Combo ($13) which was served kabob style.  Each meat was moist, seasoned well, and served in sizeable chunks.  The Grilled Salmon ($12.50), “marinated in our house seasoning,” was easily my favorite item.  Both the Combo and Salmon came with bread, rice, salad, and choice of vegetable, which on its own is a nice meal if you’re ordering for one.

We did try most of the side orders.  We both enjoyed the Eggplant with Potato ($7.50), which was the Daily Vegetable Special.  There was the Qeema Naan, which is quesadilla-like flat dough stuffed with marinated ground beef ($4.25 and Erin’s favorite) as well as the Aloo Naan ($3.25), which was stuffed with marinated potato.

Still working the Sides part of the menu we had the Vegetable Samosa ($3.50) and the Beef Samosa ($4.25).  We agreed to describe a samosa as “a fluffy but firm pastry with a filling of choice.”  It’s very unique and addition to your meal.

The last thing on the list was the Mango Lassi ($3.25), which can be easily described as a “light smoothie.” We should have cut back on the meat and tried a dessert, but you live and learn.  They also offer a few salads as well if that is your preference.

So what did we learn on our latest visit to the Canton Square?  Well, we weren’t familiar with Indian and Pakistani food before our visit to Jasa Kabob, but we are now.  They have something for everyone- chicken, beef, lamb, fish, veggies, and the most unique side orders.  We’re always advocating trying new things in this column, and Jasa Kabob’s Middle Eastern fare on the Square is a pleasant change from norm.
