Dear DocSide Vet - I’m using Frontline for fleas and it isn’t working. What do you recommend? - Lindsey, Charles Village

Dear Lindsey -

It is possible the Frontline is not working, however, it is more likely you have an infestation in your house. Only the adult flea lives on the pet. Each female adult flea can lay 25 - 50 eggs every day which fall off into the environment! Your sofa, your floors and even your bed can be loaded
with flea eggs, larvae and pupae! Frontline may be killing all of the adult fleas on your pet, but recently hatched fleas are replacing them. Treating the environment with a good spray or fogger will help, but will not kill all the immature stages. Therefore, it is critical to continue to apply a safe and highly effective monthly flea preventative to your pet until all the eggs in the environment have hatched and died off. Call your veterinarian to see which products they recommend.
