trx_492x3251Lost injury time – everyone who lifts weights for their strength workout has experienced it. That sharp pain in the elbow, the dull ache in the shoulder all day and night; all are frustrating impediments to your goals and weekly progress. Many of the weight lifting moves one does in the gym are purposely designed to target specific muscles and muscle groups to build strength and hypertrophy (growth) in those specific muscles. As you get stronger, you naturally reach for heavier and heavier weights. Consequently, the smaller and surrounding muscles and soft tissues
not specifically targeted by the exercise, but called upon to collaterally support it, can then be injured by the challenge posed by the increased weight. Ouch!

The solution is to strengthen the entire muscular system as if it were one machine with all the parts working together systemically, instead of as individual parts. TRX or Total Body Resistance Exercise, developed by Randy Hetrick - founder of Fitness Anywhere, Inc. and his Navy SEAL teammates, uses the tag line “make your body your machine.” TRX does exactly that with a two part winning combination.

First, the resistance used in every exercise is safe – using one’s own body weight. Second, and most importantly, one’s own body must provide all the stabilization required to perform each exercise properly, thereby, moving much of the focus of the strengthening to the supporting muscles and tissues of the body. My own experience and that expressed by clients is that after months of TRX training, not only have old weight lifting injuries faded away, but the symmetrical and systemic strength gained has brought progressive weight lifting goals safely within reach. If you like to lift weights for strength and want to escape the injuries and reach new levels give TRX a try.

“On the road I use Fitness Anywhere’s TRX, a total resistance suspension trainer. You can use it anywhere - strap it to a pole, behind the door and use it to work every part of your body: balance, speed, agility, core strength, shoulder and leg strength and power. I train with it every day.”  – Drew Brees, Men’s Journal Magazine

“When they told me it was invented by a Navy SEAL, I knew it would be cool…It’s just your body weight working against gravity, so you won’t get injured. Now my wife uses one at home, and I’m addicted…” – Drew Brees, Sports Illustrated
