Yellow grapesThe MD wine industry is alive during its prime season – ‘harvest’. With local grape growing and wine making on the rise, there are an assortment of events for all ages and interests to enjoy within a short drive.

If you are interested in how wine is made, take a trip to Basignani Winery in Sparks for Harvest Saturdays. Pick grapes in Basignani’s charming vineyard and follow the process from branch to bottle. If you prefer to stay indoors, visit Boordy Vineyards in Hydes for Soups in the Cellar where you can savor an array of comforting, seasonal soups paired with Boordy’s best-selling wine selections in their 19th century stone wine cellar. If you are looking for a hearty-meal to pair with your wine, check out the Sunday Evening Pasta and Wine Dinner at Black Ankle Vineyards in Mt. Airy. Chef Paul Dongarra of Dionysus’s Kitchen prepares a three-course meal each week using locally sourced foods paired with Black Ankle’s famous wine selections. [Chef Dongarra prepares a kids meal as well!]
