NECTAR | Long before Nectar Boutique opened its doors in historic Canton Square in October of 2007, it was fully formed in the mind of its owner, Christine Short. Growing up in Southern Delaware and then attending College at Mt. Saint Mary’s in Emmitsburg, MD, Christine always had a fascination with fashion that far outsized her small-town surroundings.
Despite having to wear a uniform for much of her childhood and adolescence, Nectar’s owner developed a refined and unique sense of style, preferring looks that were polished, approachable, and endearing, but never showy. Slowly, a lifelong love of clothes (and shopping) turned into a dream, and then a plan – to one day create a store where people of diverse personalities could find clothes that were at once essential and delectable.
After gaining several years of business experience in her family’s company in Bethany Beach, Christine was finally ready to bring her vision to the city across the Chesapeake, Baltimore, and the neighborhood, Canton, that had charmed her she first visited in college. Leaving behind a comfortable beach house with closets galore, Christine moved into a quaint row-home on Dillon Street with her college roommate, two spirited dogs, one small “closet”, and put everything else she had into her dream of running a first-rate boutique.
In a few months, with a little help from her friends, and the emotional support of her unique dog, Kiki, Christine had found the perfect location and had secured contracts with up and coming clothing labels and established designers, like Serfontaine and Trina Turk. After finally opening Nectar, Christine has worked hard to ensure that everything she sells embodies her vision of quality, function, fun, and individuality and matches the enthusiasm and vibrancy of the Canton community.
Whether it’s an amazing pair of durable jeans from an exciting national designer or a delicate silver filigree pendant made by hand in Baltimore, Nectar strives to bring its customers clothing and accessories that add new life to any wardrobe, no matter the contents (or size) of its owner’s closet. Most importantly however, Nectar remains the lifelong dream of a small-town fashionista who takes a personal interest in all her customers’ shopping experience.
Please enjoy browsing through Nectar’s online boutique and be sure to stop in and see Christine and Kiki next time you’re on the Square!

These pictures are absolutely terrible. Grainy, hardly in focus, horrible lighting, stereotypical posing, and models that aren’t even looking at or facing the camera. Next time, if you want to gain people’s interest, make sure you hire a better photographer.
